On Saturday June 13 our group entered the Chi-Cheemaun Festival’s cardboard boat race. Once again the intrepid “Flamin’ Idiots” took to the water. Retired seaman Geoff Cunliffe was able to rope a volunteer from the crowd, Gavin Belsher, to climb aboard and paddle. After making it through the first heat, they lost the second but had fun in the process. Better luck next year!

On Saturday May 30th we held a bicycle tuneup event at the Lion’s Head Farmers’ Market that drew a lot of attention. We are considering a second round, likely in mid-July.

Come out to Pike Bay Wednesday July 1 for the Canada Day festivities at Pike Bay Community Park, 732 Pike Bay Road. We will have an information booth and will bring birdhouse kits for kids of all ages to assemble with the help of parents or Bruce Men’s Shed guys. The kits are free but donations are always accepted!

This year at the Wiarton Homecoming Festival we will be selling pulled pork sandwiches again on Saturday August 1 at Bluewater Park in Wiarton. The festival runs Friday July 31 to Sunday August 2.

Ever since our group formed we have been receiving donated tools, usually in ones or twos, sometimes in a small batch. This spring we received a generous amount of tools from Judy and Larry Miller (thank you to Dan Bryans for that connection), and recently took in an entire workshop from another North Bruce resident. After spending hours categorizing the tools into a spreadsheet, the list was shared with our members with the intent of setting up a lending library. The next job is to figure out where to store all of these tools, and possibly share with other groups.

Our next monthly meeting is Saturday September 19 from 9am-11am but every Monday morning we gather for coffee from 9am-11am at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road on Highway 6, 4 km north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:45 am. There is also a Bruce Men’s Shed coffee gathering every Wednesday at 10:00 am in Wiarton at 451 Frank Street, Matthew Mutch hosting.
