The Brightshores Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation (BPHF) invites the community to take part in the 2nd Annual Checkerboard Challenge Radiothon on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
More than a fundraiser, the Radiothon reflects a shared mission to advance rural healthcare—bringing together donors, partners, and the community to ensure access to high-quality care close to home.
The Foundation works to enhance local healthcare by uniting donors in funding vital equipment, programs, and technology that keep hospitals strong. In a rural region, this care depends on partnership, leadership, and community commitment.
This year, that collaboration grows stronger with the addition of CFOS 89.3, joining The Bruce 91.9 as a second Bayshore Broadcasting partner.
Listeners and supporters are encouraged to visit the live broadcast locations:
• 91.9 The Bruce at The Shops at 84 Main, downtown Lion’s Head
• CFOS 89.3 between TD Bank and The Bread Bowl, downtown Wiarton
Both sites will feature a fun, welcoming atmosphere with live music, a hotdog BBQ by donation, and opportunities to connect and give back.
“Together with Bayshore Broadcasting, we’re proud to create a day that celebrates the strength of our community and our shared commitment to local care,” said April Patry, Executive Director. “Their deep local roots and trusted voices help inspire generosity and connection across the region.”
A highlight of the day will be the Keeping Care Close 50/50 Early Bird draw, featuring a $2,500 prize, taking place at 4:00 p.m. at the CFOS broadcasting tent in Wiarton.
Community members are encouraged to listen in or stop by, grab a hotdog, purchase a lottery ticket, make a donation, and enjoy the day—all in support of a cause that impacts everyone.
With a goal of $100,000, this year’s Radiothon will support two essential priorities that directly enhance patient care across the region.
Proceeds will support a major renovation of the Brightshores Wiarton MDRD (Medical Device Reprocessing Department), modernizing the space where surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for patient use—an essential part of safe, high‑quality care. The upgrade will enhance workflow, strengthen infection prevention, and better support Bruce Peninsula patients requiring endoscopy procedures.
Funds will also support the purchase of five ceiling lifts for the Regional ICU, enhancing both safety and dignity in patient care. These systems enable healthcare teams to move and reposition patients more safely, reducing the risk of injury while improving comfort and supporting recovery in a critical care setting.
Together, these investments will transform community generosity into meaningful improvements in safety, dignity, and quality of care.
As a rural community, access to care close to home is essential. Through this expanded Radiothon, the Foundation and Bayshore Broadcasting share a common goal: ensuring patients and families can receive the care they need—when they need it, without having to leave home.
