In April the Tobermory Food Bank, has and will, benefit from community organized Food Drives. On Sunday April 5th the congregation of Tobermory United Church brought many items for the Food Bank that they had collected during what is known as the Lenten Challenge. The purpose of this challenge is dedicating the time leading up to Easter to think of others. In total 107.6 kilograms of groceries were donated from the Lenten Challenge along with $365.50 in cash donations.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Tobermory Legion added to the collection with the gift bags that were not given out at their annual Easter Hunt.

The community support continues with a first time Food Drive organized by the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club (PBTC). This Food Drive takes place from April 1st to April 30th. It is the PBTC working together with Peacock’s Foodland to support the Tobermory Food Bank and its efforts to assist those facing Food Insecurity in our community. During the month of April non-perishable items can be dropped off at Peacock’s during regular business hours.

These Food Drives reflect the caring community that has supported the Tobermory Food Bank (TFB) with the generous gifts of grocery items and cash donations over the many years since TFB was formed. This generosity enables us to help those most in need in our community. With the cost of living increasing monthly these donations help keep our shelves filled and allow us to give out Holiday Food Hampers three times a year. This past Easter we gave out 42 hampers, the most demand we have ever had. The number reflecting the increasing need.

And once more thank you to the Tobermory United Church and the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club and Peacock’s Foodland for organizing these lifeline Food Drives.
