The Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) Elementary Ski Team took to the trails in Hepworth in early March to defend their Nordic Ski Championship title.

The day started off with the junior girls race. This group was the biggest race of the day with over 50 skiers. Our top finishers were Violet in first, Cora in fourth and Paisley in tenth.

The junior boys came out on fire with River, Grayson, Tucker and Beau taking third to sixth places respectively.

Our senior team showed up in a big way, with more skiers than all the other schools combined. The senior girls swept the podium with Avery leading the way in first place, then Georgia, Bella, Maddi, Ruthie, Ella, Mabel and Autumn following in that order. The senior boys saw Emmett finish third, followed by Trent, Owen, Sam, TA and Finn all back-to-back.

Finally, Lincoln was our lone skate skier, finishing fifth in the junior boys race.

When the day was complete and the points were tabulated, it was determined that BPDS was the back-to-back Nordic Ski Champions! Congratulations to all team members. Your hard work paid off and the coaches are very proud of all of you.

Thank you to all who helped make this ski season a huge success. From the community donations of ski equipment, our trusty parent volunteers and the very stylish ski toques (sponsored by Evergreen Electric, Hellyer’s Foodland and Scott’s Home Hardware) we are a very lucky team. We were able to field a team of 42 skiers this season and even managed to start some of our older students on the path of learning to skate ski before entering high school. Thank you to all who helped along the way and we are already planning for next season!
