On Saturday, September 16th, the Bruce Men’s Shed hosted a general meeting at the Lion’s Head Legion, Branch # 202, where the members enjoyed a guest presentation by Dr. James Hamilton, who provided information on local fisheries, including spawning and stream rehabilitation efforts, along with insight on karst topography and water flow on the Peninsula. During the presentation, GoPro underwater footage involving spawning and small fry activity was shown as well. A follow-up visit to the local fishery has been slated for Wednesday, October 25th, to watch some Fall Salmon run.

An ‘Easy Hikes’ series has returned this Fall with a ‘Hike & Learn’ on Wednesday, September 20th (Sandy Beach trail system) and Wednesday, September 27th (Lindsay Tract trail system). Throughout the hikes, the men discuss various topography features along the path. Fortunately, one of the Bruce Men’s Shed members is a retired geologist who provides an excellent overview of how the features have been formed and viewed present day throughout the trek. The ‘Easy Hikes’ are an excellent way for the men to bond a little, talk a lot, and share elder wisdom.

On Saturday, October 14th, Bruce Men’s Shed members will attend the Tobermory Men’s breakfast group, which will host the annual “Ladies Breakfast.” The upcoming breakfast is open to spouses/partners/loved ones to join, and the guest speaker will be Dr. Brian Taylor, who will be sharing exciting news about senior care and housing on the Peninsula. If you plan to attend, RSVP Martin via email hogarth@auracom.com before October 7th.

Monthly Meeting Date: The Bruce Men’s Shed will host general meetings on the third Saturday of each month. The next general meeting will occur on Saturday, October 21st. General meetings are held at the Lion’s Head Legion, Branch #202 (Hwy 6 north of Ferndale), starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday meetings will be for general meetings only as various projects, events, and activities will/may be held on other dates outside the regularly scheduled monthly meeting dates.
