Brightshores Health System is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month by encouraging eligible individuals across Grey Bruce to book a breast screening appointment as a part of routine health care.
Regular screening can help find breast cancer when it is smaller and may be easier to treat. To strengthen local diagnostic care and support timely follow-up, Brightshores now offers contrast-enhanced mammography. The specialized exam uses contrast dye to help radiologists see areas of concern more clearly and assess abnormal findings.
“Early detection can make all the difference in a patient’s treatment journey. At Brightshores, contrast‑enhanced mammography is available for cases where this may clarify uncertain findings or guide next steps, helping patients receive clear answers and timely follow‑up when it’s most needed,” said Dr. Neil Rosta, Chief of Medical Imaging at Brightshores.
The enhanced imaging service complements the role of routine screening. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Ontario, and finding it early can improve treatment options and the chance of survival.
Through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), eligible individuals between the ages of 40 and 74 can book a mammogram without a referral from a health-care provider. The service is covered by OHIP.
“Being able to self-refer removes a step that may have kept some people from getting screened. We want people to know that booking a mammogram is simple, close to home and an important way to take charge of their health,” said Beth Morris, VP, Clinical Programs & Quality, Chief Nursing Executive at Brightshores.
Brightshores’ OBSP clinic in Owen Sound serves individuals from across Grey Bruce. In 2025–26, Brightshores completed 5,995 screening mammograms. To book a mammogram, call 519-376-8637 or visit www.brightshores.ca/medical-imaging/
