Tobermory Legion Poppy Chair
September is already half done! The mornings are darker and the nights are cooler and changing of the leaves has begun… but, there is still lots to do at your local legion.
“Stand Up in the Tub” with comedian Jennifer O’Reilly will be at the legion on Friday October 2nd at 7:00pm SHARP. Tickets are $20.00, sold at the door and on Eventbrite. This is an age of majority event. Come out and enjoy a night of laughter!
Early bird membership has started. The early bird fee is $55.00 until November 30th, and then it goes up to $65.00. You can etransfer the funds to donate@tobermorylegion.org And as a bonus, all renewals are eligible for the Ford F-150 draw!
Calling for volunteers! We are looking for regular volunteers for our weekly meat draw. If you are interested, please contact the legion.
Euchre is the last Friday of the month (September 25) – games start at 7:00pm. Every Thursday starting at 7:00pm is Darts. Every Saturday is the Meat Draw starting at 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome.
Every Wednesday is the Ladies’ Auxiliary Bingo, held at the Tobermory Community Centre. Doors open at 6:30pm. The last day for BINGO at the Community Center is Wednesday, September 30th.
The Legion is still open Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 3:00pm. Stop in and say hi to Raelene – the drinks are cold and the welcome is warm!
Remembering Sheldon Edwin Ribbel
From the Military Service Recognition Book: Sheldon Edwin Ribbel was born in Lion’s Head, Ontario on August 7, 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, and served with the Royal Canadian Postal Corp on Gander, Newfoundland during WW2.
After his discharge in 1945, Sheldon moved to Tobermory. He had a contract to transport Royal Mail between Wiarton and Tobermory. Sheldon was very involved in the community, coaching the Tobermory Flyers Hockey team for a number of years, as well as being an active member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. Sheldon passed away on February 27, 1984.
