Hoping that those who are always eager to read the Peninsula Press when it first arrives will find time to come to Peacock’s on May 28th between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to enjoy a hot dog and beverage to mark World Hunger Day. The Tobermory Food Bank do this every year to bring awareness of Food Insecurity here at home and around the world. Donations are appreciated.

The Tobermory Food Bank could not function without the wonderful support of our community, businesses and neighbours that enables the assistance given to those facing Food Insecurity among us. This particular event is markedly supported by our local businesses. First of all, by Peacock’s Foodland who provide the space for the BBQ and then by all the local businesses who place their orders for their staff ahead of the event for delivery by our volunteers on May 28th.

Just recently the Tobermory Food Bank was supported by the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club (PBTC) with their collection of grocery items to be donated to the food bank. You may have seen the donation box that the PBTC placed in the foyer of Peacock’s Foodland. In the month of April, 44.4 kg or 98.8 lbs was collected for donation. Another example of the generosity of our community.

If you do happen to drop by for the BBQ fundraiser and want to know about the work of the Tobermory Food Bank, please speak to our volunteers who will be there. We are always looking for volunteers; volunteering for the Food Bank provides many different ways to give of your time and you are not committed to one particular job or day. You can choose what you volunteer for, or when, and importantly, how often. We have volunteers who are only available in the summer months and some only available in winter. Volunteering may be taking a shift from 1-3 p.m. on a Tuesday when the Food Bank is open. Or you can offer to pick up the Food Rescue items once a week from Peacock’s, or volunteer to help at our Fundraiser events.
