Call to Order and Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest and the General Nature Thereof

Mayor McIver called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Council Chambers, and Council members were reminded to disclose any pecuniary interest and the general nature thereof that may arise during the meeting.

Council entered onto the bus to begin the Municipal Road Tour.

Consideration of Agenda Items 

Municipal Road Tour

1. Cherry Hill Road Bridge

Council arrived at the destination at 9:05 a.m.

Council asked about weight restrictions and lifespan for the bridge.

2. Cabot Head Road

Council arrived at the destination at 9:35 a.m.

Council discussed the potential to create a parking area at the road entrance, how to communicate access with potential visitors, results of the public consultation survey and open house, accessibility concerns for access to the area, and ownership.

3. Lion’s Head Community Centre and Arena (4 Tackabury Street, Lion’s Head)

Council arrived at the destination at 10:35 a.m. Bob Hofstrand, Facilities Supervisor joined the meeting and provided an overview of the new electric ice resurfacer.

Council asked about the old electric ice resurfacer.

4. Lion’s Head Rotary Hall (59 Main Street, Lion’s Head)

Council arrived at the destination at 10:48 a.m.

Council discussed the accessibility of the washrooms.

5. Art Shoppe

Council arrived at the destination at 10:55 a.m.

6. Lion’s Head Marina

Council arrived at the destination at 11:04 a.m.

Council asked about electrical access of the docks, and discussed potential ways to improve the Lion’s Head Lighthouse to ensure aesthetic visual appeal.

7. Bruce Peninsula District School Tennis Court/ Pickle Ball Court

Council arrived at the destination at 11:17 a.m.

Council asked about the budget for improving the pickleball courts.

8. Lion’s Head Family Centre

Council arrived at the destination at 11:21 a.m.

Council discussed the long term planning discussion for the property and potential to expand parking.

9. Alexander Street

Council arrived at the destination at 11:30 a.m.

10. Lion’s Head Fire Hall (90 Main Street, Lion’s Head)

Council arrived at the destination at 11:40 a.m.

Jack Burt, Fire Chief, Ben Rees, Deputy Fire Chief and Bob Stewart, Planning and Committee Coordinator joined the meeting.

Council asked about federal funding regarding the new fire truck.

At 11:50 a.m., Council reviewed drone footage of Cabot Head Road.

Council asked about maintenance and drainage of the road.

Council paused for lunch at 12:15 p.m. and resumed at 12:45 p.m.

11. Maple Golf Crescent Subdivision

Council arrived at the destination at 1:28 p.m.

Council discussed the recent flooding that occurred in the Maple Golf Subdivision.

12. Tobermory Library (22 Bay Street, Tobermory)

Council arrived at the destination at 2:05 p.m.

Council asked about sidewalks on Harpur Drive and the existing private sanitary line.

Council discussed sanitary lines in Tobermory, sidewalks in the Tobermory downtown core, signage to direct pedestrians, and design of the sidewalks.

PW 26-14 Downtown Tobermory Sidewalk Revitalization Project

That Council receives report PW26-14 – Downtown Tobermory Sidewalk Revitalization Project for information; and

That Council approves the quote in the amount of $399,990 plus HST from Signature Contractors.

13. Big Tub Road

Council arrived at the destination at 2:34 p.m.

Council discussed creating a stop sign corner and a walkway to help with traffic calming.
