The air is crisp, the first frost has fallen, the trick or treaters have meandered throughout their neighbourhoods in pursuit of the perfect Halloween treat; that must mean that our thoughts will be turning to the festive holiday season. The Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary has been in the planning stages of our annual holiday fundraising events and we are so ready to bring them to you, our ever faithful, generous community. So let me tease your appetite with what is on offer in the coming months.
First, a big thank you to everyone who dropped off donations at our community clothing drive in September. You donated – are you ready for this – twelve thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine pounds. Yes, 12,999 pounds or 5,896.25 kilograms. That was enough to fill two entire box trucks!
The beauty of these donations is that with your help we raised $1,949.85 to go directly to Lion’s Head Hospital and the Kidney Foundation also benefits by donating clothing and items to those in need, and for sale in their thrift shops. Every item finds an appropriate place and use. It is always a bonus when your donations result in multiple benefits.
What is coming up are our Poinsettia Sales, Cookie Walk and On-line Auction. The Poinsettia sales this year must be ordered and paid for in advance by November 6. The deadline is fast approaching, so if you are interested and haven’t yet ordered, reach out to any hospital auxiliary member or contact Nancy at lnlaj@eastlink.ca. There are a variety of colours (red, white, pink) and sizes (6 inch to 10 inch pots) this year ranging in price from $8 to $35. As well, there are table-top greenery options available. Pick up will be at the Lion’s Head Arena, November 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Annual Cookie Walk December 6th
The Cookie Walk occurs Saturday, December 6 at Christ Church, Main Street in Lion’s Head. Last year the weather was truly frightful with many of us hesitating to venture out from the safety of our snow driven homes. Winter hit hard and fast last year. Thank you to the brave souls who managed to tough it out last year. This year we are truly hoping that the weather cooperates with us. Of all the years that we’ve been doing this we generally have very favourable wintery weather.
Mark the date on your calendar and be sure to join us to select your baking for the season. While boxes are available in the name of being eco-friendly we encourage you to bring your own containers. What we will have to offer is always a wonderful and sweet surprise because we never really know what is going to happen. Dog treats? Maybe. Squares? Of course. Breads and buns? Likely. And, of course, cookies in all shapes, flavours and configurations.
There is always more than one way to contribute to our fundraising efforts and one of those ways is offering to bake those bars, cookies and squares. If you love to bake and are willing to bake up some treats to donate to our cookie walk please contact us as soon as possible; Nancy Strang, 519-793-4576, or by email Nancy Strang nstrang77@gmail.com or Cathy Viscount catvis31@gmail.com.
