Once again the Ladies Auxiliary of Tobermory Legion branch 290 have given the children of Tobermory some delightful fun! On the morning of Saturday April 19th, 39 children, along with some parents and grandparents, waited at the door of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 290 while the Easter Bunny’s helpers prepared for the flurry of “eggs”citing activity. The children were each given a number and once inside they had to hunt for and find a bag of treats with the same number. Soon the bags were found and the children were enjoying the sweets, but the fun had only just begun.
Arliss Golden used the Bingo machine to bring the numbers up and Barbara Zych then called the numbers out loud. One by one the children responded by showing they had the corresponding number at which time they could go and choose a toy from the toy table. One little guy had to wait a long time for his number to be called and when it finally was he threw his little arms around Barbara and gave her a grateful hug! A hug from an excited child is one of life’s gifts that is even sweeter than candy! Still more treats awaited the happy children, as on their way out, they were each given a juice box and a small bottle of bubble magic with a wand for making bubbles.
Arliss Golden says that this Tobermory Easter tradition has been hosted by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for more than 40 years. One of the volunteers this Easter weekend, Tanya Thornton, has fond memories of coming to this event when, as a small child, she came for Easter visits with her grandparents, Kay and Lorne Lyons. The Ladies acknowledge with gratitude the generous donations of Tobermory businesses and residents that make it possible to provide the treats and toys at Christmas and again at Easter.
