Press Release
APRIL 2, 2025 – The Peninsula Family Health Team is pleased to announce the arrival of a new physician to the Northern Bruce Peninsula medical practice group.
Arriving in early May, we will welcome Dr. Claire Bodkin to the Peninsula Family Health Team (FHT).
Dr. Bodkin is a graduate of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton. Since obtaining her Independent Practice license in 2021, Dr. Bodkin has spent her clinical time locuming in Southwestern & Northern Ontario as well as the Northwest Territories. She has a keen interest in research and teaching and currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor as well as the Postgraduate Research & Scholarship Director with the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University.
She will be a familiar face to many patients of the Peninsula FHT as she has served as a clinic Locum and Emergency department physician during the summer of 2024.
As she commences her full-time clinical practice here on the Peninsula, Dr. Bodkin joins the five current family physicians who provide primary care at the Peninsula FHT. She will see rostered patients in the Lion’s Head & Tobermory clinics and will be expanding care of our patients in the areas of substance use disorders, gender affirming care and mental health. She will also provide Emergency and Hospitalist care through the Brightshores-Lion’s Head hospital site.
Dr. Elaine Blau, Lead Physician of the Peninsula FHT shares that “Addressing healthcare needs for our community is what we do on a day-to-day basis; building and maintaining a strong skilled team of professionals to provide that care is part of the behind-the-scenes work that is always ongoing. Recruitment & Retention of family physicians is a critical part of the sustainability & health of our community. Adding Dr. Bodkin to our team not only strengthens the work we already do but also brings additional practice skills and knowledge that will broaden patient care services here on the Peninsula.”
According to Pamela Loughlean Executive Director of the Peninsula FHT, “Dr. Bodkin is the fifth full time physician to join the MNBP clinical practice since 2016. During a time in which we see shortages of family physicians in so many communities across Ontario, we are delighted that Dr. Bodkin and her family have chosen to make the Bruce Peninsula their home.”
The Peninsula FHT will be offering rostered patient spots with Dr. Bodkin to residents of the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula (MNBP) who do not currently have a family physician and have been on our waitlist for primary care.
The Peninsula FHT extends their appreciation to the Mayor & Council of MNBP as well as our community Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee for their ongoing support of local primary care.
Welcome Dr. Bodkin!
