On Tuesday April 15 we will be hosting a Lunch and Learn at the Lion’s Head Legion, with guest speaker Rene Langen speaking on seniors wellness. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion will be making soup and sandwiches for lunch. There is a limit of 40 people for this event, and we are accepting RSVP’s by phone or email. Chris Mawdsley is a member of both the Legion and Bruce Men’s Shed and you may contact him at 226-668-4540 or mawdsch@gmail.com. Tickets are $10 per person.
Ten of our guys got together at Scott’s workshop in Oliphant again, this time we had purchased cedar boards and we made up twenty bird feeders; ten were assembled and ten were left as kits. We are offering these for sale at $20 for kits and $25 assembled. We also made nine more bird houses that we assembled and sell for $30. If you’re interested in either please see our contact information below.

During the March break, Wiarton Propeller Club had a couple of days of activities lined up for students to do, and had asked us to prepare wooden kits. Four of us brought 24 kits, paint and brushes and helped as they put them together.
The Wiarton Sandpipers had read about us in the paper and asked us to do a presentation at one of their weekly Wednesday meetings. As we talked about the reasons for the existence of Men’s Sheds we had great interaction with many from the group. Men’s groups aren’t a rarity but what differentiates Sheds is that our activities are driven by member interest. Having a fixed location and time to allow drop-ins is a great way to build friendships and have a laugh or two. Our hope is to one day assist someone in other locations start up their own local Shed.
A very pertinent question was asked if we would allow women to join in, as there are many who would love to learn woodworking from experts such as we have. If someone has a home workshop that is willing to open and share with others, please reach out to us!
Every Monday morning we meet for coffee 9am-11am, and our monthly meetings are the third Saturday morning of the month, same time. You don’t need to be a member to drop in for coffee. Both are held at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 202 on Highway 6, just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:45 all are welcome.
If you would like further information on how to get involved with the Men’s Shed movement, please contact us at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793–3005. There are no membership fees.
