Happenings at the Lion’s Head Legion Branch 202
Submitted by Sharron Colter, Secretary and Public Relations Officer (PRO)
The Poppy committee of the Lion’s Head Legion was busy planning the Remembrance Day services held on November 11, 2024. Thank you to everyone in the community who supported the poppy campaign and donated to the poppy fund. Legion members campaigned at Hellyer’s Foodland and the Lion’s Head LCBO. The poppy funds are available to support veterans and their families.
The students and teachers of the Bruce District School in Lion’s Head walked to the Lion’s Head cenotaph to observe the service. Brian Reis officiated. Dr. Thomson played the Last Post and the Rouse on his trumpet. Many community members were close by to observe Remembrance for the many veterans who made sacrifices to give us the freedom that we enjoy in Canada today. We were fortunate to avoid the rainfall during the service.

Thank you to the many government levels, churches, businesses and family donors who honoured the veterans with a wreath to remember them on November 11th. Thank you to the Air Cadets in attendance from Owen Sound who assisted with the laying of the wreaths. The poppy fund supports the Army and the Air Force cadet programs.

On November 15 members of the Lion’s Head Legion welcomed MPP Rick Byers and Mayor Milt McIver to the legion. MPP Rick Byers presented the Legion with a certificate on behalf of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grant that the Legion applied for and received to improve and extend the life of the building. The Lion’s Head Legion’s building was once the Swan Lake one room schoolhouse. It is exciting to announce that the Legion is available to several groups in the community for their monthly meetings and programs.
Darts continue on Mondays and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. except the first Thursday of the month. Bring your own darts. Cribbage is available on Thursdays.
