SOK Talk Series: All Too Clear – Excerpts from Inspired Planet’s New Documentary on November 14th
Submitted by Moira Parker, Sources of Knowledge
This fall and winter, Sources of Knowledge has been hosting a variety of events that celebrate nature, culture, and community. From musical performances to insightful talks, each gathering brings people together to learn, connect, and share stories. Held at the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, these events offer a welcoming space for meaningful interactions.
SOK Sings 2.0: An Evening of Music and Community
On October 9, SOK Sings 2.0: An Evening of Music and Community returned for its second installment, drawing a lively crowd eager to enjoy an evening of local music and storytelling. Building on the success of its June debut, the event filled the Parks Visitor Centre with music, warmth, and a strong sense of community.
Parks Canada employee Sara Jean Hoffman welcomed the audience on behalf of Parks Canada and delivered a formal land acknowledgment. The performances kicked off with an upbeat lobby set by drummer Nick Ferrence and guitarist Jon Newitt, setting the tone for an entertaining night. On the main stage, Marty Oblak, James Bolos, Dan Corcoran, and Robert Franklin showcased a diverse mix of music. Marty’s reflective originals “What I Become” and “It’s Too Late,” James’ heartfelt “Honesty” and “Breakdown,” Dan’s ode to the Montreal Subway, and Robert’s blues-infused guitar work offered a compelling mix of personal stories and meaningful themes.
During intermission, Janet Wittington and Robert Franklin provided light music as guests mingled and enjoyed snacks, cheese, meat samples, pizza, and non-alcoholic beer in the upper hall. The second half of the show continued with a variety of performances, including Marty’s song “Tidal Wave,” written in memory of his late friend Matt.
With strong community support, SOK Sings 2.0 was a success, and we look forward to similar events in the future.
