By the time you are reading this Halloween has come and gone. That means we can talk about Christmas! Too soon? Sorry. Still, while the rest of you are still getting over the sugar highs of Halloween goodies the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary (LHHA) has been preparing their Christmas fundraisers. There are so many coming up to help you usher in festivities. We sincerely hope that you will include our fundraisers into your holiday traditions.
LHHA Poinsettia Sale
There are numerous ways in which you can celebrate your holiday spirit and support keeping health care local. For many, having a poinsettia in your home is a necessary annual Christmas tradition. LHHA is offering red, white or pink, 8 inch poinsettias for sale at a price of $25.00. You must order and prepay by November 18 for pick up at the arena in Lion’s Head between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. on November 28.
Even if you don’t traditionally have poinsettias in your home at Christmas perhaps you would like to invite the tropics into your home to dispel the winter blues. Poinsettias are, in fact, native to Mexico and Central America where they grow into shrubs. While we think of the red being the flower these are bracts while the yellow clusters in the centre are the actual flowers.
You can order these glorious plants from any auxiliary member or contact Nancy at 519-793-6446 or lnlaj@eastlink.ca. Don’t forget the deadline for orders is November 18.
Cookie Walk/Greenery Sale & Book Store December 7th
This year the Cookie Walk, Greenery Sale and Bookstore have consolidated into one location, Christ Church, 55 Main Street, Lion’s Head. Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 7 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
What awaits you inside is, well, cookies, lots of cookies. The event has become so popular that last year we ran out of cookies. Imagine a Cookie Walk without cookies To ensure that we don’t run out this year we are asking bakers from the community for their help. There are so many ways to contribute to fundraising and baking is one of them. If you are interested, please contact Nancy Strang at 519-793-4176 or nstrang77@gmail.com.
For those of you who love Christmas cookies or fudge but don’t have the time or, like me, the skill, the Cookie Walk is a great way to stock up on your baked goods and contribute to keeping our health care local.
This year, while we can supply containers, we are encouraging shoppers to bring their own, a great way to reduce waste. New this year we have, are you ready for it, doggie cookies. Yes, a seasonal treat for your furry buddy. Make sure you keep the treat a surprise, however. Furry buddies can’t come in and sniff out their own treats.
The Greenery Sale offers an assortment of holiday décor items like wreaths and swags. These are made from live greenery and range in price from $10 to $40. There is nothing quite like the scent of nature that wreaths and swags offer to our senses.
Our Used Bookstore will also be open that day. Come downstairs to look over the vast collection. Favourite authors abound. There are lovely coffee table books, how to selections, non-fiction delights, cookbooks and so much more. There is nothing quite like a good book to cuddle up with on a cold winter’s night. You can’t beat the price as all books are by donation. But do be generous knowing that all proceeds are for a good cause.
Online Auction December 6-12
Finally, we have our Online Auction. This year the auction opens Friday, December 6 at 7:00 a.m. and closes December 12 at 10:00 p.m. The items on offer are new or next to new with a broad range in value. There is something for everyone. Parents, this might be a great time to introduce your children to shopping that encompasses two tasks, obtaining a desired item while also giving back to their community through charitable contributions. Perhaps they can even do some of their Christmas shopping at the auction. Of course, all you adults out there can do some great Christmas shopping, too, or indulge in a gift for yourself.
With gift ideas, home decor and Christmas items and so much more there are sure to be items to capture your interest. Don’t forget to check out the catalogue at LookLocally.ca/LHHA
We look forward to seeing you all and thank you for your continued support.
