Giving Back to the Community Continues

Media Release

Earlier this month our group got together at the Bruce Peninsula Family Centre to build a small lean-to shed. The centre has two large plastic carts that are used daily to take the children out for fresh air. This new shed is built close to the doors and allows easier access and frees up space in their existing sheds. The five of us worked in the drizzle and cool wind until we ran out of material. The next day two returned and were able to complete the shed. The intent is to keep snow and rain out of the carts. What do you think of the final product?

In September as a joint venture between Bruce Men’s Shed, Bruce Trail Conservancy, and Nature Conservancy Canada (NCC), nine of us met at the Sturgeon Woods Nature Reserve property that NCC bought last year and is “re-wilding”. The main goal to start was to remove the shed that had been used as a hunting camp. The shed had been built using deck screws and after the steel cladding was taken off was fairly easy to take apart. On a following date a smaller group returned to finish disassembling the deck that had served as the floor. Two trailers full of salvaged plywood, windows and lumber were hauled away.

Every Monday morning we meet for coffee 9am-11am, and our monthly meetings are the third Saturday morning of the month, same time. You don’t need to be a member to drop in for coffee. Both are held at Canadian Legion Branch 202 on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:30 all are welcome.
