Josh Williams, owner of Kustom Creations, was the guest speaker at the January 17th WIN luncheon.

Having never attended an event where the guest speaker was a tattoo artist, I must say that I’m happy to be writing this report for the WIN Luncheon, held on Thursday, January 17. My own lifelong impressions of tattoos have been of those WWII navy guys from my dad’s generation who would go on shore leave, get liquored up and go back to their ship with “Mom” or another moniker emblazoned on a bicep. Or biker guys and their chicks with random tattoos everywhere. But history has been changing for a number of years and tattoos have become “body art”; from the simplest, most elegant keepsake of a loved one’s passing or a permanent nod to an important moment in time, to elaborate technicolour full-sleeves and body-swathes uniquely created to honour person, place, or event in a most unique and personal way.
And on this day the luncheon ladies were introduced to Josh Williams, our one-and-only tattoo artist in Tobermory. His presentation and his display of equipment, inks, pens, gloves, and binders filled with his own beautifully rendered images were impressive, not to mention his razor sharp attention to “sterile technique” in his craft (retired nurse here!). This man is clearly devoted to his work and residents of Tobermory and surrounding areas are a testament to him since he opened Kustom Creations a couple years ago at 7405 Hwy 6. Josh comes highly recommended by all who proudly wear his work. The village of Tobermory appealed to Josh with its unique wildlife and nautical and natural influences and he looks forward to growing with the community and bringing clients’ ideas and designs to skin.
As ever, lunch by the staff of The Green Door in Wiarton was beautifully catered and served. There is benefit to our wintry weather: comfort food and conversation, shared happily by those who don’t get out as much this time of year.
The next WIN Luncheon will be held on Thursday, February 14 (yes, on Valentine’s Day) at the Tobermory Community Centre. Watch for posters around town. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. Please confirm your attendance NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, FEB. 10th by visiting our website: http://suegeoffdawson.wix.com/wintobermory or call 519-596-2068 or 519-596-2217.
