STOKES BAY, ONTARIO: The Greenough and North Bruce Wilderness Alliance (Wilderness Alliance) is delighted to announce that it has received funds from the Greenbelt Foundation to conduct essential ecological studies on a parcel of land near Simon Bay, Lake Huron. The Wilderness Alliance is a new not-for-profit land trust and registered charity on the Northern Saugeen-Bruce Peninsula. It is dedicated to protecting, restoring and conserving the natural wild environment of lands along the Peninsula’s western shore for everybody and forevermore. The vision is to create a swath of protected natural landscape and linked biodiverse forest along the west coast.

While the Bruce Trail Conservancy and Provincial Parks have done extraordinary work in creating connected forests and protecting the eastern shoreline from development, the western shore, with its equally delicate ecosystem, has not received the same level of protection. This is a pressing issue that the Greenbelt Foundation funding and the subsequent ecology studies near Simon Bay will address, laying the groundwork for sound stewardship of a pristine landscape.

The Wilderness Alliance is pleased to work alongside the Greenbelt Foundation. The Greenbelt provides important ecological corridors for migrating plants and animals, providing landscape connectivity along north-south and east-west ecological corridors, connecting the Great Lakes region. When the natural wild environment is protected, we all win.

The Wilderness Alliance welcomes new members. For more information, visit www.wildernessalliance.ca or contact admin@wildernessalliance.ca
