After discussing the community donations with the Membership at the regular monthly meeting, the Treasurer and President went forward with making the presentations. They met up with Wendell Thomson and made a donation to the “Wendell’s Walk” Fundraiser for Local Healthcare. Wendell walked from his home location of Pike Bay to Sauble Beach and back to Pike Bay on September 9th and 10th to raise money to help fund a barrier free shower for the Lion’s Head Hospital.

Both Wendell and the Peninsula SWANS are dedicated to sponsoring quality healthcare, close to home. Way to go Wendell!

On September 10th, Treasurer Bev Miller made a donation of $600.00 to the Lion’s Head Foodbank. There are some changes for this organization that serves from Lawrence Road to Maple Drive in Northern Bruce Peninsula. The Foodbank remains located at 2627 Highway 6 (Pentecostal Country Church), but it has a NEW phone number, 226-923-1936 and a new Chair Person, Charlene Scharlach. Charlene is a fellow SWANS member and will do a great job.

A special thanks to Darlene Myles for her dedicated service over the past several years to this very valuable organization.

The new slogan for the Lion’s Head Foodbank is “Hunger Does Not Take a Vacation” and along with food items, they are in need of Feminine Hygiene products and household cleaning products. In addition to the opportunities to make donations at the site, there will be donations accepted at the Christmas Market held at Summer House Park in Miller Lake on November 23rd and 24th and the Stuff the Cruiser event on December 7th at Hellyer’s Foodland.

The Golden Dawn hosted an Open House to showcase the redecoration of the hallways on September 16th. It was a beautiful day to view the beautiful artwork and to enjoy the tunes from Elvis! President Cathy McLay made a donation to Administrator Rachael Wilkens, on behalf of the Peninsula SWANS.

Besides the above events, we continued fundraising with some catering, and all things considered, our group had a busy and successful September!
