Your local Rotary Club is sponsoring an international student from Taiwan for the upcoming school year (2024-25), and is urgently searching for families in Northern Bruce Peninsula that would be willing to host the student for three- or four-months in the Fall, Winter or Spring terms. Please contact Rotarian Cathryn Buckley by email (cathryn.buckley@yahoo.ca) or by phone (519-596-8188) for more information on hosting our exchange student.

Rotary Pancake Breakfast

Rotary thanks everyone who came out to our third community Pancake Breakfast of the 2024 season held on Sunday, August 4th – we served over 300 breakfasts that morning!

In addition to photos seen here, photos from this and previous Pancake Breakfast events this year can be found on our Club website at https://www.rotarynbp.org under the ‘About Us’ tab, and the ‘Pancake Breakfasts Photo Albums’ tab.

Our final scheduled Pancake Breakfast of this year will be held on the Labour Day Holiday weekend, on Sunday, September 1st, 9:00 to 11:30 AM at the Rotary Pavilion adjacent to Lion’s Head Beach. We hope to see you there!

Once again, Rotary thanks the many ‘Friends of Rotary’ who help us put on our Pancake Breakfast. We also thank our generous individual and business sponsors. A list of 2023 individual and business sponsors can be found at https://www.rotarynbp.org/stories/sponsorship, which will be updated shortly to reflect our 2024 sponsors!

If you or your business may be interested in sponsoring our Pancake Breakfast events this year, please contact Rotarian Doug Embleton at (226) 923-1604.

Wendell’s Walk for Health Care 2.0

Plans are in place for Rotarian Wendell Thomson’s ‘Wendell’s Walk for Health Care 2.0’ which will take place over the two days of Monday, September 9th (Pike Bay to Sauble Beach), and Tuesday, September 10th (Sauble Beach to Pike Bay). Wendell will walk the over 60 kilometer route to raise funds for Brightshores – Lion’s Head Hospital to ‘keep health care close to home’.

Once again, Wendell’s Walk is proudly sponsored by Bluewater RV Sales Ltd. of Wiarton, providing a support vehicle for Wendell as he walks the road shoulders between Pike Bay and Sauble Beach.

Last year’s Wendell’s Walk from Tobermory to Pike Bay generated more than $30,000 in donations directed to Lion’s Head Hospital to support Wendell’s cause of keeping health care local. This year, Wendell’s goal is to raise $50,000 to help fund a barrier free shower for Brightshores – Lion’s Head Hospital.

You can donate to Wendell’s Walk for Health Care on-line (www.bphfoundation.com), via e-transfer (to admin@bphfoundation.com), by phone – (519) 534-5856 – or mail (to Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation, 369 Mary Street, Wiarton, Ontario, N0H 2T0). Please include your full mailing address with your donation to receive a charitable donation receipt.

Oktoberfest is Coming!

Rotary Oktoberfest is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th to take place at Rotary Hall in Lion’s Head.

Afternoon events at the Hall will include an organized children’s walk to local caves (beginning at 2 PM), face painting at Rotary Hall, with snacks available (including popcorn, beers and ciders, soft drinks, coffee and tea).

Evening events at the Hall (starting at 7 PM) will include the very popular beer stein hold contest, a 50/50 draw (with half the proceeds going towards Rotary scholarships program), with musical entertainment by the band Road Rash, and a range of food options including hotdogs, sausages, condiments of sauerkraut and hot mustard, pretzels and more.

Oktoberfest draught beer by Tagwerk Bier will be on tap, along with other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options. Oktoberfest merchandise will be also available for sale, including t-shirts and beer steins!

Net proceeds from this fundraiser event will go towards Rotary Hall improvements, a Hall which has served as a community hub since 1898!

More details to come in the next issue of the Bruce Peninsula Press, including information regarding on-line ticket sales. We hope to see you at the second annual Oktoberfest community event!

Trivia Night August 24

There will be a $5.00 entry fee, Rotarians will tend bar, and snacks will be available for purchase.
