‘Somewhere to go, Something to do, Someone to talk to’
Media Release, Bruce Men’s Shed
Monday July 1st at the Pike Bay second annual Canada Day Festival our group had our first ever booth set up to showcase the Bruce Men’s Shed. We had great member support in spreading the word about our group. People recognized us from Facebook and newspaper articles and came up to say hello. Others were curious about what a Men’s Shed is. We were able to show them the most recent project; the birdhouse kits we made and brought to the festival. A picnic table was set up so that anyone who wanted to assemble a birdhouse to take home was able to hammer them together. Our guys along with the kids’ parents helped assemble more than twenty.
It was a great success if only measured by the smiles and compliments we received. Special thanks to everyone who came out today and to everyone who contributed to the effort!

Another project completed this week was to build butterfly cages for “the Butterfly Lady” Anne James. Anne has been tirelessly raising monarch butterflies every year and has released thousands. At her talks she often gives away these cages to people who want to try raising their own, and we are happy to help support her.
Just before Fathers Day, we held our First Annual Golf Outing at Pinewood at Sauble Beach. A very nice course and we enjoyed a great lunch at their restaurant.
Our renovation work at the Stokes Bay Community Centre is nearly completed for the season. We updated cabinet doors by taking them off site to refinish them. This began by removing old decorative molding, filling nail holes and old handle holes. After sanding the doors, they were primed and painted using an air sprayer. New handles and hinges helped give a new look to the kitchen. While the doors were out and being worked on, the cabinets were painted as well.
The updated doors were reinstalled last week and another old cabinet was removed and replaced with a donated one, which we painted as well.
Every Monday morning we meet for coffee 9-11, and our monthly meetings are the third Saturday morning of the month. You don’t need to be a member to drop in for coffee. Both are held at Canadian Legion Branch 202 on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:30 all are welcome. If you would like further information on how to get involved with the Men’s Shed movement, please don’t hesitate to contact the Bruce Men’s Shed at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793-3005. At this time we do not have any membership fees.
