The Robins are back, the tulips are blooming and the Victoria Day Long Weekend is just around the corner. As we all anticipate another summer season the LHHA (Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary) is busy ramping up its events to help raise funds to keep health care close to home. Get out your calendars and mark down the dates. Our fundraising is a team effort because we rely on the generosity of our community to inject much needed cash into various projects at Brightshores Health System (yes, there was a name change).
The LHHA SECOND HAND BOOKSTORE, is located on the lower level of Christ Church Anglican, 55 Main St., Lion’s Head (please enter at the back of the church). It reopens for another season Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. There is an amazing selection and prices are by donation. Open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Hours may be extended as the summer progresses and as demand dictates.
Next on the agenda is the annual LHHA PLANT SALE, Saturday, June 1st from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The location returns to the space between the Friendship Centre and the arena on Tackaberry St. in Lion’s Head. Indulge your inner gardener and select a variety of gardening delights. Take a chance on something new and adventurous or stick with the tried and true knowing that your purchase of our competitively priced plants will both brighten up your garden and brighten up our efforts to keep care close to home. Come scope out our hostas, lilies, phlox, Sweet William, heliotropes, and so much more.
At the Chi-cheemaun Festival in Tobermory which is celebrating our maritime history and the ferry’s 50 years of service this year, plan on attending the LHHA WHITEFISH DINNER, Saturday, June 17 at the Tobermory Community Centre from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. The incredible dinner includes local whitefish, roll, potato, vegetables, coleslaw, dessert, and coffee, tea or lemonade at the incredible price of $25 per adult, $12 for children under the age of 12. The Rotary Club will serve adult beverages as well. All of this is accompanied by live music courtesy of BriAr (Brian Taylor and Arnie Crittendon). Can you think of anything more representative of our maritime history than a fresh whitefish dinner and live, local music? Don’t be disappointed, get your advance tickets (cash only, please) at the following: Verna’s (519-596-2351), Scott’s Home Hardware (519-793-3446), Walsh’s Garage (519-793-4625), Sandy Walsh (519-374-5778), and Susan Hellyer (519-270-6978).
The LHHA YARD SALE returns this year Saturday, July 6 and Sunday morning, July 7. This annual favourite has been running long before ‘rehoming items’ became an environmentally trendy action. One person’s discard truly is another person’s treasure. As always, those wishing to donate items for the sale are asked to bring those items to the back doors of the arena on Tackaberry St., Lion’s Head, Friday, July 5th from 8:00 a.m. until noon. We have no storage facilities available so are unable to accept donated items beforehand. Get there early so we don’t have to send anyone away. Please remember there are items we simply CANNOT accept.
Thank you in advance to our extremely generous community for helping us make these fundraising events so successful. We can’t do it without you. Looking forward to seeing you at one, or maybe all, of our fundraising events. Together we are stronger.
