It has been a very busy October for Food Bank volunteers. We were pleased to distribute 33 Thanksgiving hampers this year. We are very grateful to Peacock’s Foodland for supplying the ham, turkey and other perishable food items for the hampers.

Summer House Park organized their annual non-perishable food drive for campers as they closed up their trailers and from staff and volunteers operating the Haunted House event. The donation was very large again this year at 179 pounds. Miller Family Camp also contributed to fall donations as their campers left for the season.

Donations have started up again with the placement of donation bins at the Lion’s Head Arena and Peninsula Pet Supplies. Monetary donations also helped us purchase items for the Thanksgiving hampers. Any amount is gratefully received as we are now gearing up for Christmas hampers.

Foresters Insurance has a Grant program called Community Volunteer Grants which offers opportunities for members to make a difference in their local community. One Peninsula resident applied for the grant to assist the Food Bank since we lost our local grocery store and have to travel much further to purchase items for our regular hampers. $200.00 worth of food items were purchased and presented to the Food Bank. It is great to see people thinking outside the box to create ways to support the food bank.

FEEL GOOD MOMENT

A 6-year-old child found $10.00 and asked his mother to give the money to the food bank to make sure people had a Thanksgiving dinner. This is truly remarkable for a young person and we were very encouraged by this demonstration of generosity in our community!
