Do you ever wonder how decisions are made at BPDS and St. Edmunds? Do you wish you knew more about what’s happening in the schools and had more of a voice in school issues? Or do you have a project you’d love to see the school take on, and a bit of time to help fundraise or organize to make that plan a reality?

If so, you may be interested in joining our School Councils! The main councils meet only four times a year and share information about what’s happening at the school, the board, and even the province in terms of education. We discuss current issues and make sure that families and the community have a voice in how the school is run.

Both St. Edmunds and BPDS School Councils have done some significant fundraising in the past (almost all St. Edmunds field trips are free thanks to our Council, and the BPDS playground equipment was bought and installed with money raised by the Council there). But while we appreciate the fundraising, the core role of the School Councils is improving student achievement and ensuring the school is accountable to the community. That’s you!

We’d love to have new members for both schools. At St. Edmunds, our next meeting is Wednesday, November 15th, at 3:30pm at the school. At BPDS, the next meeting is Thursday, November 23rd at 7:00pm at the school. The 23rd is elementary parent-teacher night so if you book your teacher appointments towards the end of the evening, you can stick around and see if School Council is right for you. No obligation to commit, but we would love to have you at the table.

We’re happy to have drop-ins to either meeting, but in order to be sure you get messages about any date changes or other details, or if you can’t make the next meeting but might like to attend future ones, send a quick message to Brenda_brewer@bwdsb.on.ca and we’ll make sure you’re added to our mailing lists.
