The Meeting Place Tobermory (TMP) is a rural community hub focused on promoting ‘well being’ in ways that connect with the population. As a registered charitable organization since 2015, TMP Community Hub is defined by local needs, and the services and resources are developed from that perspective. We use a mix of volunteers, paid community workers, community alliances and diverse operational functions in order to sustain our efforts.

TMP is pleased to announce we have received a grant through the Investment Readiness Program (IRP) for the Go Ride project. The IRP is funded by the Government of Canada and is part of Canada’s Social Innovation and Social Finance Strategy. The grant was administered in Southwestern Ontario by Community Foundation Grey Bruce in partnership with the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.

Karina Gould, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development shares that “Our Government recognizes the integral role that social purpose organizations have in tackling social, economic, and environmental challenges in Canada. The Meeting Place is building a sustainable community where people can live well, and maximize good health and well-being. The Investment Readiness Program supports our goal to increase inclusion and opportunities for participation of Canadians in their communities, and is a foundational element to build the economy Canadians want.”

Thanks to the generous support from the grant funding, TMP has hired a project manager for Go Ride. The project involves researching, verifying and developing a business plan intended to help address the social environmental issue of affordable, low emission transportation on the Northern Bruce Peninsula using rental E-bikes.

The objectives of this project are twofold:

-to rent E-bikes to seasonal workers to help address affordable transportation needs;

-then examine the feasibility of developing an E-Bike Rental Service for anyone wanting to use an E-bike to explore the area.

The potential revenues from this initiative could be re-invested in local transportation solutions and general program capacity building at The Meeting Place.
