On June 24, during a general membership meeting, the Men’s Shed welcomed a presentation by Jane Kramer about Camp X, the unofficial name of the World War II – secret Special Training School No. 103. Camp X was established on December 6, 1941, by the chief of British Security Co-ordination (BSC), Sir William Stephenson, a Canadian from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and a close confidant of Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Jane’s father was a Canadian Intelligence Officer who worked closely with Stephenson and Ian Fleming (James Bond 007) as she got to travel at a young age with her mother following her father around the World on his covert missions.

Known today as Intrepid Park, Camp X was located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario between Whitby and Oshawa in Ontario, Canada. Camp X evolved into a “Special Training School” instructing recruits on clandestine operations for underground resistance, spy recruitment, code-breaking, and much more. Jane provided an interesting perspective of the spy network through a child’s eyes while including some amazing summer adventures involving her work with Chantry Island Tours in Saugeen Shores. An extremely informative presentation by Jane.
Monthly Meeting Date
