Established on April 1st, the Bruce Men’s Shed is two months old and growing. Since our April 29th Breakfast Invitational, it is evident that many Men on the Peninsula not only can benefit from what a Men’s Shed has to offer but also contribute a lifetime of knowledge, skills, and abilities to help, encourage and empower other Men to share in a variety of activities and events.

Men can share presentations based on various activities and interests and host follow-up workshops surrounding the knowledge and information they offer. Presentations have ranged from cardboard boat construction for the upcoming Chi-Cheemaun Festival races, experiences with Men’s Sheds in Tasmania, beagle training, and straw bale gardening, with outside information provided about snakes and turtle reproduction on the Peninsula.

Men are experiencing opportunities to learn new skills, such as woodworking or assisting other Men in understanding such activities. A series of “Easy Hikes” have incorporated various locations throughout the Peninsula, including exploring a “Net-Zero Energy Home” in the area. Upcoming outings will be visiting a local straw bale garden, more “Easy Hikes,” as well as a trip to a local fish club to explore fish restoration efforts along with a follow-up presentation at a future club meeting involving GoPro footage of fish spawning in the restored areas and examining information about karst topography on the Peninsula that impacts wildlife, fish, and humans.

The next Bruce Men’s Shed meeting will be held on Saturday, June 24th, between 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the Lion’s Head Legion Branch # 202 (Hwy #6). Check us out on Facebook: Bruce Men’s Shed.

Lastly, the leadership team is exploring potential options across the Peninsula for a location to call home for completing various projects. If you think you have a place that might work for such purposes, don’t hesitate to contact the Men’s Shed leadership team.
