Stopped in Awe: News from Tobermory United

Submitted by Rev. Sheryl Spencer

Tobermory United has shifted into preparations for the annual St. Nicholas Bazaar, which occurs November 25 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the Tobermory Community Centre. The bazaar is a labour of love that results in a festive community gathering that folks look forward to all year. Northern Twisted Roots, the hobby project of Scott and Tanya Thornton, makes beautiful things out of vintage objects, and they will be hosting a craft workshop that will be held at Tobermory United on November 4 from 1:00 to 4:00pm. Items made in the workshop will be sold at the bazaar.

If you might have some rustic vintage or antique things hidden in your garage or basement, then this is your invitation to donate them for the craft workshop. All of the following are welcome: anything nautical; wood sleds, skis or snowshoes; old bells of all sizes; crocks; lanterns; galvanized pails and wash basins; vintage jewellery; small wood shutters; antique hardware; ceramic Christmas trees; anything cast iron; yard sticks; old wooden ladders; and vintage or antique Christmas decorations.

Part of the bazaar preparations is also a pie-making blitz. With Vi Adams’ help, Tobermory United has pie making down to a science. Blueberry, cherry or apple pies can be ordered in advance, then picked up November 10 between 4:00 and 5:00pm at the church. You can also order butter tarts!

Pies and tarts may be ordered by contacting Lori Johnston at lorijohnston6@gmail.com or at 519-795-7335. If you have vintage or antique items to be re-purposed into beautiful crafts, please call the church at 519-596-2394 to make arrangements to drop them off.

Rev. Sheryl Spencer is the minister at Tobermory United Church.
