Bruce Peninsula OPP Report: Four Charged With Stunt Driving

(GREY BRUCE, ON) The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been continuing their commitment to road safety across Grey Bruce County with proactive traffic enforcement.

Since August 6, 2022, The Grey Bruce OPP have charged the following four drivers with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

· A 28-year-old driver from Norwich – travelling at over 150 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 6.

· A 27-year-old driver from Barrie – travelling at over 140 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 26

· A 33-year-old driver from Holland Centre – travelling at over 160 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 10

· A 39-year-old driver from Toronto – travelling at over 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 10

Those drivers now face a scheduled court appearance at the Provincial Offences Court in Owen Sound, a 14-day vehicle impoundment, and a 30-day licence suspension. This brings the yearly total to 43 drivers charged with stunt driving in Grey Bruce County.

The Grey Bruce OPP would like to remind motorists that we all play a part in keeping our roadways safe. Plan ahead for unexpected delays, drive according to the road and weather conditions, and always obey all traffic laws when travelling to your destination.

GREY BRUCE CIVIC HOLIDAY WEEKEND WRAP UP

(GREY BRUCE, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were out patrolling Civic Holiday weekend as members took part in the Civic Long Weekend Traffic Initiative which ran from July 29 to August 1, 2022.

The focus of this year’s campaign was the move over law, which requires drivers to slow down and move over for an emergency vehicle or a tow truck with its emergency lights activated. The Grey Bruce OPP are pleased to announce that there were no charges laid regarding motorists failing to do so.

In total, the Grey Bruce OPP laid 75 charges, which are broken down into the following infractions:

· 47 speeding charges

· 3 stunt driving charges

· 2 seatbelt charges

· 1 distracted driving charge

· 2 impaired operation charges

· 2 compulsory automobile insurance act charges

· 18 other provincial offence charges

Each and every motorist can contribute by slowing down, obeying traffic laws, paying extra attention to other motorists around them and reporting aggressive driving.”

STOLEN PROPERTY WORTH OVER $150,000 RECOVERED

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On July 29, 2022, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant on a property located in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

A search of the property resulted in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, stolen property, and other offence related property valued at over $150,000.

The investigation remains ongoing by member of the CSCU, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO IMPAIRED OPERATOR BEING CHARGED 

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On July 25, 2022 at approximately 11:00 p.m., The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 6. It was reported that a dark coloured sedan was being operated in an erratic manner.

While patrolling for the vehicle on Highway 6, officers observed a dark coloured sedan traveling well above the posted speed limit and stopped the vehicle. 

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old from Southgate Township has been charged with Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code and with Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Owen Sound, at a later date.
