The Peninsula Family Health Team (FHT) hosted pop-up vaccine clinics for booster (3rd) shots on December 20, 21, 22 in Lion’s Head and by appointment in Tobermory on December 23.

The pop-up vaccine clinics were held at the Bethel Church Hall, Lion’s Head and were open to all residents of Northern Bruce 18 years and over wanting to get their 3rd shot before Christmas. No appointment was required for the Lion’s Head clinics, while appointments were needed for the Tobermory clinic.

Feedback from people getting their booster shots was positive – it was very efficient and smoothly operated. They expressed their appreciation to the local medical team for organizing this service on the Peninsula and getting so many people immunized in response to the Omicron variant.

Pamela Loughlean Executive Director, Peninsula FHT explains “When the Medical Officer of Health put out the call for all Primary Care teams to pivot from their day-to-day work to do a 14 day blitz to try to get as many Ontarians vaccinated before Christmas to help stem the tide of Omicron, the Peninsula FHT did not hesitate to step up.”

Loughlean states “Over the course of the pandemic, we have created an efficient local response to immunizing the Peninsula and we knew we could rise to the challenge. The three community vaccine clinics held at the Bethel Church on Dec 20, 21, and 22nd were an example of how local collaboration can be a huge success when we all work together. The clinics were staffed by volunteers from the local Fire Department, Tobermory Hyperbaric Facility, Peninsula Pharmacy, Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, Bruce County EMS, Golden Dawn Nursing Home, Grey Bruce Health Services – Lion’s Head, community volunteers, current and retired Physicians, and the Peninsula Family Health Team. It truly does take a village!”

During the 14 day blitz between December 15 and December 31, the Peninsula FHT was able to provide 2,750 COVID boosters (3rd) shots while still keeping the Tobermory and Lion’s Head clinic sites open for regular primary care.

They continue to have appointments available each week for 1st, 2nd or 3rd COVID-19 vaccines so if anyone is in need of immunization, they should call into either clinic site to book an appointment:
