It is time to register for a Christmas Hamper if you or your family need assistance in having a Christmas meal. You can register at the Tobermory Food Bank at The Meeting Place during its regular hours, Tuesday from 1-3 p.m, or you can call Linda at 519-596-2333, no later than Friday December 17th. The pick-up date and time for those pre-registered for the Hampers is Thursday December 23rd between 11 a.m. and 12 noon at The Meeting Place.

Again, the Food Bank is coordinating the distribution of toys/gifts that the Northern Bruce Firefighters collect. If you, or if you know of a family, that could use some assistance in providing gifts for their children, please contact Linda at 519-596-2333. The program is eligible for ages 0-16 years. The deadline is Friday December 10th. Names are held in confidence, but age and gender of the children need to be provided. Pick up time for those registered for the program is Thursday December 23rd between 11 a.m. and 12 noon at The Meeting Place.

Both of these endeavours would not be possible without the generosity of the many donors who support the Food Bank and the Firefighters Toy Drive. We are going into another winter, but this year we know that the cost of food, home heating, and fuel have increased and forecast to increase even more. We also know that the increase in costs can have a greater negative impact on those already living with Food Security issues, and unfortunately push others into that situation as well. The constant dilemma can be, do we pay housing costs, heat and hydro bills, or do we put food on the table. But fortunately, we live in a caring community and the support given to help others is and has always been part of the fabric of this wonderful place.

When the Pandemic began, we paused taking in donations of food items. With things opening up we are now accepting food donations. Donations of canned meat, tuna and salmon along with pasta, pasta sauce and canned pasta are welcome items. Breakfast cereals, breakfast bars, peanut butter and jam are also needed items. As well as canned vegetables, brown beans and chunky style soups. We appreciate all donations, but we ask to please check best before dates before donating. There will once again be a food donation box at the Post Office. As always, the Food Bank Committee is grateful for all donations whether they be monetary or food items. Keep taking care.
