The Tobermory Food Bank will resume its regular hours Tuesday September 7th from 1-3 p.m. at The Meeting Place, Tobermory. Our volunteers will be there with Covid-19 safety protocols in place for the clients and volunteers.

The fall is approaching, when seasonal work is winding down and some may find themselves with food security issues while waiting for Employment Insurance to start up. There may also be folks who are facing the same issues due to cost of food ever increasing, whether it be a family or seniors. That is what the Food Bank is for, to help those in need of some assistance to address food security issues, even if it is just a temporary situation.

For example, families may face extra expenses getting kids ready for back-to-school in-person learning. Or perhaps an unexpected expense, one-time or ongoing, is making finding enough money for groceries an unmanageable problem.

If you are an individual or family needing assistance, please be assured that everything is held in strictest confidence. In fact, our volunteers declare with their signature on a document to keep that confidence. We know it is often a hard decision to reach out and ask for that assistance, but the Tobermory Food Bank was started on the premise that it was just another way of a community committed to helping neighbours. The Tobermory Community has had a long history of doing just that.

We have a dedicated group of volunteers, and sadly one of our volunteers Janet Manderson passed away in July. Janet was a dedicated volunteer who was committed to serving our clients and brought her experience and suggestions to our meetings. Our sympathy goes out to Janet’s family and her dear friend Helen.

If you have any questions regarding the Food Bank please call Linda at 519-596-2333 or Jim at 519-375-7010. And if you are inquiring as a potential client or on behalf of someone, again be assured all is in confidence.

We are always in need of volunteers, so if you have some time to spare, please call Linda to learn more about what it means to be a volunteer.

Keep taking care.
