Happy Spring from Keep the Bruce Clean and Green!

The morning after Mother’s Day, a bear or two took to the Big Tub Road! The pictures show the destruction from a bear getting into a wooden garbage container and the second picture is of a plastic bag left on top of a blue box.

The morning after Mother’s Day, several garbage and recycling containers were upset on Big Tub Road.

With lots of time to think these days, we would like to suggest that one thinks about the best time to put your garbage out. It appeared as if, garbage was put out the night before, leaving lots of time for bears to go feasting! The metal “tidee” type bins, were not touched by the bears. If you are able to secure a metal bin, perhaps we could make them more attractive by painting pleasing pictures on the outside…food for thought. Small towns throughout Nova Scotia paint their mailboxes for others to enjoy looking at. We will research this idea for our next article.

Keep the Bruce Clean and Green would like to thank a conscientious, environmentally friendly resident who cycled to different areas on Big Tub Road and picked up the nasty garbage, strewn about! We don’t know your name, but we do know we should all appreciate and thank a person like you! Similarly, the property owners of the wooden container, in the first picture, had it all cleaned up in record time. Kudos to you too!

Keep the Bruce Clean and Green would like to invite you to check us out on Facebook at Keep The Bruce Clean and Green, as well as our Twitter and Instagram accounts! We post a variety of repurposing ideas and different activities, for people of all ages. We also post ideas for us to think about when moving forward, in the days ahead.

The Waste facilities are supposed to be open, operating on the summer schedule, by the time of this printing. Unfortunately, the reuse area was not open at the time of this printing. Hopefully that will happen soon, as many people are spring cleaning these days.

We can all reduce our environmental footprint by reusing and repurposing things!
