Here I am as promised, NOT the MRI Guy…..no big check! Now I am the Health Guy and hopefully today and in the coming months I will give you a information to help understand how the health care system works in our area.
In the center of the picture is Grey Bruce Health Services. They are the governing body of the SIX HOSPITALS in Grey and Bruce located in Owen Sound, Meaford, Markdale, Southampton, Wiarton and Lion’s Head. GBHS is supported by the FIVE FOUNDATIONS, Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation (OSRHF), Meaford Hospital Foundation (MHF), Central Grey Health Services Foundation (CGHSF), Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) and Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation (BPHSF). GBHS is also supported by SIX HOSPITAL AUXILIARIES, one at each hospital. The Auxiliaries are a great asset to GBHS as they raise thousands of dollars each year to help keep the hospitals viable.
BPHSF is unique in that it supports both Wiarton and Lion’s Head Hospitals. I am now a board member of BPHSF. The Mission statement of BPHSF is “TO ASSIST IN MEETING THE HEALTH CARE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE OF THE BRUCE PENINSULA AREA BY RAISING FUNDS FOR PRIORITY HOSPITAL PROJECTS TO KEEP OUR HOSPITALS CURRENT.”
Our hospitals compile a Capital Request list each year consisting of ongoing, basic hospital needs as well as much needed new replacement equipment. This list can have anything on it from a portable lift and tub, patient monitoring system, beds, etc. BPHSF raises the funds needed for the Capital Requests for both Lion’s Head and Wiarton hospitals as well as a portion of the needs at Grey Bruce Regional Health Center.
If you make a donation to BPHSF you can designate where the money goes. The money can be designated for the Lion’s Head Hospital, Wiarton Hospital or it can go into a general fund to be used where the need is the greatest. Your donation will go directly to where you want it to go.
The vision of BPHSF is “TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO ENGAGE IN PHILANTHROPIC ACTIVITIES WHICH SUPPORT OUTSTANDING HEALTH CARE.”
