Lion’s Head Terry Fox Run Surpasses $200,000 in Funds Raised

Submitted by Vicki & Roger Stevens

Once again, the community of Lion’s Head demonstrated their generosity by supporting our 29th Terry Fox Run held on Sunday, September 15.

After a rainy start to the day, the sun came out just in time for the 70 participants who ran, walked, cycled, and sailed the beautiful course which showcases the waters of Georgian Bay. Approximately $10,500.00 was raised this year in support of cancer research. This brings the total raised in Lion’s Head, over our 29 years of participation, to approximately $201,310.00!

A huge thank you goes out to Connie who mans the registration table each year. Steve, Kathy, Kyle and Kara Hellyer supply the hotdogs and refreshments from Foodland. Cyril Hellyer does a great job on the bbq and feeds the hungry participants when they cross the finish line. Scott’s Hardware donates the water to keep everyone hydrated during their run. Linda, Jess and Jeff greeted runners at the two water stations along the route. Jamie Hastings Tree Services generously donates their equipment and expertise to hang and remove the banner over Main Street. Without these volunteers, the Lion’s Head run would not have endured 29 awesome years!

Next year’s run will take place on Sunday, September 20th! It will celebrate the 40th anniversary for the national run and the 30th anniversary of the Lion’s Head Run. We would like to make our run even bigger and better. Mark your calendar now for the run in 2020!
