Life Around Tobermory United…From The Desk Of The Lazy Theologian: Last Day For Thrift Shop September 28

Submitted by Brad Inglis

As I write this, fall appears to have arrived with a vengeance (and not in a good way). Let’s hope by the time you read this, we will have settled into a beautiful rhythm of sunny fall weather that makes way for an extended season. Otherwise it is going to make for a pretty long season of Netflix.
Everything seems to have started up again around the church. Yoga and Tai chi classes are in full swing and continue to be on a drop-in basis. If you haven’t explored them before, it’s a great time to check them out. The bridge players always welcome those who are looking to learn the game and those who may be rusty but wanting to get back involved. Don’t let the laughter frighten you, oddly for a quiet game, they make it sound more like a party. The Tobermory Muses, the local writing group, have started their bi-weekly gatherings. Coffee with Brad continues Friday mornings at 10. The Book Circle will resume on Mondays and the worship services remain at the same times – Catholic service at 11:30 am on Saturday and the United Church service at 10:30 on Sunday mornings.
For times of programs and other special events, please check out our web page listed below or send me an email and I can include you on our email list. The email is a combination of things around the church and upcoming community events. It helps to keep you in the know! We try and post events like the upcoming Trivia Night that will be at the Legion on Friday September 13th at 7pm. It’s tons of fun, ten dollars a person and you can bring a team or join a team once you get there. Don’t be afraid to come alone because someone will always scoop you up, especially if you look smart! The proceeds from the Trivia Night go to assist the local Food Bank.
You still have a couple of more weeks to take in the Bingo at the Community Centre. It is hosted by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary on Wednesday nights starting at 7:15. The doors open at 6. I believe the last bingo of the season is Wednesday September 25th. Two hints for you, but tell no one where you heard it…there is always cake the last night AND the grand prize of $500 always goes. The regular players hate it when a newbie shows up on the last night and wins the jackpot – so go for sure and try your luck. If you win, you will be escorted to your car (hopefully with your money). Last year with the help of these bingos, the ladies raised $12,000 for community projects.
To all of the business owners and workers of the season – job well done! I can’t imagine how hectic the season gets for those working in the firing line. But without you, we would have no economic base, so thank you for making this a sustainable place to live.

Another Great Season At The Thrift Shop

Let us first thank all of the generous donors and shoppers and volunteers who once again made the Thrift Shop a tremendous success this year. None of this is possible without you! We are now into our fall schedule and only open Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm. We can no longer take any donations this season, but please keep them for next year if possible. Saturday September 28th is our final day of operation for the season. Leading up to this date, watch for some great deals as we clean up and the final day is always a big blow out. There will be fill a bag with books or clothing for a special price and just donations on the last day as you help us to clear out the inventory.
