Orchid Festival Press Release
Finishing touches are being made to the 2019 Orchid Festival schedule! Come out and enjoy a walk in the woods to see spring in bloom.
The current weather conditions are favourable for a brilliant display of native wildflowers and orchids in their natural habitats. Catch a tour boat to Flowerpot for a guided hike, join a car caravan, take part in the Photography workshop led by Peter Rasberry, or, if being indoors is more your thing, try a watercolour painting workshop lead by local artist Julie Heinrichs.
The Friday night guest speaker, Megan Myles, Northern Bruce Peninsula Councillor, will discuss how we manage/adapt to change, from climate to tourism! Bruce Peninsula represents an ecosystem of global importance for nature conservation. We all share a responsibility in protecting it!
Saturday evening we will enjoy a wine and cheese event, a special time to share your stories of the day, with refreshments in the Visitor Centre lobby. This precedes the Keynote Presentation by Dan Doucette. Dan is a native of Niagara Falls. He is a worldwide traveler in search of wild orchids. Come hear about his adventures in faraway places with his presentation “Adventures with Native Orchids Around the World.”
Join Dan on his world-wide adventures in the tropics looking for wild orchids, from the mixed heath forests of Borneo to the cloud forests of Colombia. The adventures continue in the montane grasslands of Africa and span all the way to the Bolivian Amazon. Superb images, interesting species and entertaining stories are spread throughout the presentation.
The Orchid Festival is hosted by the Friends of the Bruce District Parks Association and the National Park Visitor Centre is the headquarters. Visit our website at www.orchidfest.ca to register.
