The BPBA (Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association) wants to extend our thanks to you, our community, for supporting our annual Easter fundraiser. We also want to send a huge thank you to all of the volunteer Easter bunnies who hand-created 433 Easter eggs using donated ingredients! We hope you enjoyed our sweet treats.

We had a near sellout of our Easter 50/50 tickets, and the big winner of $1,050.50 was Doug Embleton from Lion’s Head! He said he almost didn’t buy the tickets but then thought it was for a good cause, so he did!

This year’s funds will help run our Bayside Astronomy program. While we do receive support in the form of grants to pay our student astronomer leaders, these do not always cover all of the expenses associated with our activities.

Bayside Astronomy is a free astronomy program running from Canada Day until Labour Day! Attendees learn about preserving dark skies and look through our telescopes to see Jupiter, Saturn’s rings, galaxies, nebulae, lunar craters, and more!

Since 2012, it has been one of the most popular tourist attractions on the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula. We want more people to understand the importance of dark skies—not only for astronomy but also to protect wildlife, particularly nocturnal animals, and to save energy.

Bayside Astronomy happens five nights a week all summer. Over 2,000 people from all over the world attend this event every year. The sessions get underway around sunset with a group of volunteers led by Mike Warkentin, the “Dark Sky Guy,” and our student Program Managers. Thank you again from the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association—a non-profit, community-based registered charity dedicated to achieving a healthy environment!
