On October 5th, the scenic routes of the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula had more than 400 cyclists riding with huge smiles while actively fundraising for a good cause. Cycling on this spectacular warm, sunny day with its stunning landscapes and challenging terrain, showcased not only the beauty of the area but also raised an impressive estimated $67,000 for the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association (BPBA).
The BPBA will use these funds and the other fundraising activities, including a 50/50 draw and merchandise sales, to support our mission to protect the natural environment of the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula while promoting sustainable practices. The BPBA plans to use the funds to enhance local conservation projects, community education programs, and initiatives that aim to protect the area’s unique biodiversity, improve water quality and keep our dark skies dark!
A team of 90 passionate volunteers dedicate their time and effort to ensure the event runs smoothly. From setting up food and water stations, to managing the start and finish lines, volunteers play a crucial role in creating an unforgettable experience for participants.
The grassroots nature of the event highlights the growing interest in gravel biking and the vibrant cycling community on the Peninsula. The race offered participants a choice of four different routes -115, 80, 56, and 30 km – each presenting unique challenges and breathtaking views. Riders navigate through a mix of gravel roads and picturesque trails, taking in the stunning fall foliage and the natural beauty that the Peninsula is renowned for.
Our sponsors play a vital role in the success of the event, and we have shared all of their names in the Bruce Peninsula Press under a separate advertisement (see below). Thank you all!

At the finish line in Lion’s Head, riders celebrated their accomplishments with food and camaraderie hosted by the Lions Club from Lion’s Head and local beer provided by Tagwerks Brewery.
Our 50/50 Fondo draw winner, John Kieffer said, “I am thrilled to win the 50/50 draw this year. This is my third year cycling the Bruce Peninsula Gravel Fondo in support of the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association’s great work. A fabulous event for an excellent cause!”
Other participants echoed these sentiments, expressing their appreciation for both the challenge of the race and the cause it supports. “This is such an amazing event, well organised, the supports are great and the scenery is unmatchable, all for a great cause. I will be back for sure” said one rider, who completed the 115 km route.
The Fondo proved once again that the thrill of cycling, the beauty of nature, and community spirit can create a powerful and impactful event. Mark your calendars for next year’s ride on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and be prepared to join the adventure!
