St Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum Launches Online Survey

Submitted by St Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum Committee

A schoolbook from the 1940s, recounting when a trip to the big city was so exciting; farm implements to show the back breaking work of tilling the land; views of early Tobermory’s fishing port; a tribute to the veterans of the former St Edmunds Township; stone tools… these are some of the things available to see if you visit the St Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum in Tobermory.

The museum has been open since the mid 1960s, and has welcomed Canadian and international guests over the years, still popular now with evolving tourism.

We recognize it is now time for some renewal, and the Museum would like your opinions.

We are embarking on a new Strategic Plan with the help of a museum consultant. The first stage is to survey ideas from our community and partners.

We have a survey available online, with some paper copies that will be available at the Museum, the Tobermory Press and the library if you’d rather participate non-digitally. Completed surveys can be left at any of these locations. Please take the time to fill it in to let us know what you’d like to see as stories, to tell us what kinds of engagement activities you’d love to have, and what would draw you back to the Museum for its display of the history and culture of the Bruce Peninsula.

Museums are a window into history in a physical way, letting you participate in learning that can be fun and fascinating. We have many gems showing the life in a rural town that can inspire and broaden your understanding of a place with a deep history prior to the tourism draw that it is now.

Please help us to grow and renew!

You can find the survey by scanning the QR code (shown here) or by visiting the website: tinyurl.com/355sadn4

You’ll see posters around town as well. We’ll have the survey open for the next month, but welcome early participation.

We will develop new ideas based on what you, the community, give us feedback about.

And… as a treat, it’s the 125th year of the school building… more on that soon!
