Lion’s Head is “the best community to live in” according to Tim Hayes. Born and raised here and home to generations before him, Tim has spent decades selflessly volunteering his time and services for the betterment of all who live in the area. In fact, this summer marks the 30th year that Tim has supported the Lion’s Head Hospital.

Tim is a member of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, and has provided income tax filing services for modest income earners free of charge for many years. Some of his clients insist in offering compensation for his service, so he asks those folks to make a donation to the Lion’s Head Hospital rather than accept payment personally.

The countless hours that Tim has devoted to preparing and filing income taxes for NBP folks has raised over $30,000 in donations to the Lion’s Head Hospital over the years.

“I don’t live high by any means, but I have enough to get by. If I have enough, than somebody else can have the rest” said Tim Hayes when asked why he gives so much of himself. “It feels good to support the hospital. I’ve used the hospital several times and figure that I’m going to need it again,” he added.

Tim’s giving doesn’t end there. Residents, cottagers and tourists know Tim through his year round bottle drive, located beside the Lion’s Head LCBO on Bruce Road #9. The funds raised through the bottle drive support youth and seniors programs and services like the Breakfast Club at BPDS, the local chapter of Scouts (no longer active), and more recently, paying for meals prepared and delivered by local restaurants to seniors during covid-19 lockdowns. He also uses these funds to hold the annual Canada Day Community BBQ in Lion’s Head in support of the Fire Department.

Tim is quick to share the credit for the success of his fundraising endeavors with local businesses and the community at large, saying “whenever a need in the community comes up, the people always come together to make sure the need is met”

This year, BPH Foundation applied Tim’s annual support to the new X-ray machine needed for the Lion’s Head Hospital. Tim intends to continue his annual tax-time support as long as he can.
