Come celebrate our last double digit Sunday! On the East Road, Cape Chin around some serpentine corners, rises and falls, there is a little stone chapel in a clearing – the historic and still vibrant and beautiful St Margaret’s Chapel. It is a magical place, built by the community for the community, where stories are told all summer long, as the sun sets against the backdrop of trees.
Left open year-round, available for those who may benefit from a quiet place of beauty and history: to sit, to meditate, to pray. A place where all feelings are welcome: thanksgiving and wonder, sorrow and confusion, discernment and hope.
Our Thanksgiving Sunday service at 7pm is always especially delightful – a wonderful way to round out Thanksgiving weekend, whether you are pre- or post-Turkey dinner!
Why is it so especially delightful you might ask? Good question!
Because the trees have started to change colour, we enter just before sunset and leave as dusk is gathering up the skirts of night. Because the singing of favourite hymns, and the telling of a story move our imaginations in concert with Creator’s handiwork which speaks of abundance and colour and glory – particularly at this time in the fall. Stories from a storyteller, heard by our ears. Stories from creation, seen by our eyes and felt by our bodies in our surroundings.
This year, St Margaret’s Chapel will host her final double digits Communion service at 7 pm on Sunday October 11th. The story will be about a Dentist’s Thanksgiving at the gnashing of teeth, often foretold in the Bible. For who, but a dentist, could give thanks for such a dilemma?
This is our last service of our double digits or 99th year, because in 2027, St Margaret’s celebrates 100 years. We move into the triple digits territory! We should all age so beautifully, I say!
100 years of welcome, worship, history, storytelling, community participation and truly – church that has succeeded in being a place of thanksgiving and wonder, a place of song and praise.
We would love to have you join us for worship this Sunday, as we prepare to launch our 100th anniversary celebrations. Bring a blanket if it is cool, and plan to stay and share some refreshments with us after worship. Come share our final double digits celebration with us – all are welcome.
