Swimmers of all ages are invited to register for the 5th Annual Old Woman Island 1 Mile Swim taking place at Black Creek Provincial Park (aka Sandy Beach). The swim will start at 10 a.m on August 30, 2026. Registration fee is $25 per person.
The swimmers will start at the beach and swim to Old Woman Island and back, a total of 1.6 km or 1 mile.
Organizers say this will be their final year organizing the event.
This year, proceeds from the event will be donated to Bagida-waad Alliance. The organizers says “the group organizes regular shoreline cleanups, restores wildlife habitats, removes invasive species, and creates spaces where native plants (and the creatures that depend on them) can thrive! Their work is hands-on, community-driven, and rooted in Indigenous knowledge. By sponsoring our swimmers, we’ll be supporting access to equipment, field supplies, safety gear, habitat restoration materials, transportation, and youth training.”

All donations will be entered into a raffle to win a two-night stay at the Friendly Owl Bed and Breakfast. To donate, please go to https://gofund.me/014ac3f94
