The summer season has begun. I know that technically it is still spring, but the Victoria Day Long Weekend always ushers in the summer season. The tradition continued on the Peninsula as the entire area was hopping all weekend.

The Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who came out to our second Victoria Day Fish Fry at the Lion’s Head arena. Tickets sold out well in advance of the May 16th date. The long line ups commenced promptly at 5:00 and continued until all tickets had been redeemed. Thanks very much to our wonderful musicians who delighted the crowd with favourite renditions of folk and contemporary music. The meal was delicious, finished up by a variety of home-baked goods baked by our very own auxiliary members.

Perennial Plant Sale June 6th

Our next fundraising event is, of course, our Perennial Plant Sale, held this year on June 6th. This year’s spring has been rather unusual, but perhaps our new normal. The poor plants haven’t been able to figure out which season greets them each day. Still, the digging continues and only by attending the sale will you be able to see what varieties are available. Every year we have the staple daylilies and hostas. Other perennial varieties are always a surprise. We never truly know what we’re going to have. However, because the plants all come from the peninsula you can be sure they are hardy to this zone. Please be sure to come and check them out, Saturday, June 6th between 9:00 a.m. and noon on the grassy area between the Lion’s Head Arena and the Friendship Club on Tackabury Street in Lion’s Head. Many thanks to The Blooming Lion for their generous donation of the potting soil in which to put our plants. This year, for the first time, we will be offering wood chips for mulch, price to be determined. Also, if we are lucky and the weather cooperates, there will be bundles of rhubarb stalks for sale. Come check it out.

Annual Yard Sale July 4th & 5th

This year the Annual Yard Sale is a little earlier than usual. Canada Day falls on a Wednesday this year and the yard sale always happens on the weekend following Canada Day. This year that means donation drop off is Friday, July 3rd and the sale itself Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th. This coincides with some people’s long weekend, so the sale is bound to be busy. Write those dates in your calendar and plan to come and search for treasure.

Our community is very generous and the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary and Lion’s Head Hospital thanks you for that. Every time you are at the hospital and benefiting from up-to-date medical equipment (even the chairs you sit in) it is a result of your generosity. We are in this together.
