Last issue I talked about how the Royal Canadian Legion is offering 2026 membership free to anyone signing up in 2026. In addition their name would be automatically entered into a draw for a chance to win a brand new Ford F150 pickup truck. The entries eligible are from January to December 2026, are 18 years of age or older. This is a $65 value plus you get a membership card, a subscription to the monthly Legion Magazine, and the Memberperks program which offers endless discounts on things from travel to appliances to vehicles. However there is a caveat that I missed: your name only goes into the draw once you have paid up for 2027 membership. A great deal for anyone interested in joining.

We have a new public FaceBook page under “BR 202 RCL Lions Head Legion” which has regular updates on events, check it out!

Join us Friday February 27th for a free movie screening of “Hidden Figures” which has a 93% audience and critics rating according to the Rotten Tomatoes website. It is a great film about how three African American women were instrumental in calculating the orbital dynamics required to successfully launch John Glenn into orbit. We will provide tea and coffee as well as snacks. This event is provided in partnership with the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula’s Senior Active Living Centre (SALC) funding with support from the Government of Ontario. Doors open at 1:00, movie starts at 1:30 and runs 2 hours 7 minutes.

Just a reminder that our weekly Tai Chi classes are Fridays 10-11 am. This is open to the public so if you’re interested just come out a few minutes early, and bring a dry pair of shoes with you. The focus of the moves are to stretch, improve balance, and of course, have fun. This is not a “hot” workout so casual wear is fine.

Join us on Mondays and Thursdays (Except the first Thursday of the month) at 1:00 pm for darts, euchre and cribbage. Doors open at 12:30, play begins at 1:00. It costs $3 to play. Saturday March 7 we play “darts for meat” where you play for a chance to bring home a prize cut, entry is $4.00 plus $1 per game (maximum $10 depending on your skill/luck). Our address is 6 Hellyer Road.
