As we approach Christmas and the New Year the time has come to look back on an amazing year. On the world front it has been a complex year of uncertainty and unrest, but here on the Northern Bruce/Saugeen Peninsula the community has come together to support one another in so many ways. We are an incredibly generous community and that has been proven over and over again through the fundraising activities of the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary (LHHA).

Currently we have just concluded our Annual Cookie Walk, and by the time this issue comes out, our Online Auction. Our local merchants and restaurants have been incredibly generous with their donated items and gift certificates and it would be wonderful to continue to see the community support those businesses. The cookies this year came from near and far and many were works of art, edible art. Our four-legged friends weren’t forgotten either with doggie treats, quite popular. So many volunteers baked for us and then the shoppers showed up and procured their holiday cookies. The baked bread was particularly popular. Anyone who is still missing their container, please let us know.

Of course, the latest events weren’t the only fundraisers this past year. We started out with a very successful, sold out Fish Fry, moved onto our Perennial Sale, then our Annual extremely popular Yard Sale, the fall Clothing Drive and let’s not forget the November Poinsettia Sale.

The Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary coordinates these fundraising events but we are never alone in our endeavours. We can always, without exception count on our entire community; seasonal, year round, transient, local merchants and businesses and restaurants. We all support our local hospital, keeping health care local. So many people don’t realize that the Ministry of Health does not fund equipment required to keep health care current. If you happen to be at the hospital and look around at the equipment, chances are that funds were raised to purchase it.

So, how many ways are there to say thank you? Thank you, Merci, Gracias, Danke, Arigato, Miigwech and so, so many more. May peace be with you this festive season and may you all have a very Happy New Year.
