FIRE: Respect, Knowledge, Balance: October 24-26
Submitted by Moira Parker,
Sources of Knowledge Forum
The final morning of the Sources of Knowledge forum on FIRE: Respect, Knowledge, Balance, is designed for reflection, questions, and closure. We would like to remind you that residents of the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula (MNBP) can attend this session free of charge.
Attendees are welcome to begin the morning celebrating the sunrise at the fire at 7:58 a.m. The Parks Canada Visitor Centre will be open with refreshments at 8:30 a.m. and a Saugeen Ojibway National Elder will provide an opening prayer at 9:00 a.m. The first session, “Summing Up,” brings weekend presenters into guided discussions, each offering a brief closing statement on what we’ve heard, followed by a moderated conversation with Sources of Knowledge (SOK) board member, Chris Sumpton.
After a short stretch break at 10:15 a.m., we will move into a Panel & Questions session at 10:30 a.m., moderated by SOK board member Rob Klea. Your questions drive the conversation, attendees can submit them throughout the weekend at the foyer question box, and Sunday’s moderators will work through them with the speakers, or we can pass the microphone around for any questions you come up with on the spot. We will close with a brief Forum wrap-up at 11:45 a.m., followed by a final prayer and an invitation to visit the outdoor fire. Our Sunday event is where the weekend’s science, stories, and lived experience come together. Sunday turns information into clarity, what resonated, what remains uncertain, and which questions matter most to our community right now.
Whether you join us for the full weekend or just for the Saturday night with our keynote speaker, the Forum offers something rare: a chance to hear directly from knowledge keepers, scientists, planners, firefighters, and neighbours about how fire shapes our forests, and our choices. Come for local insight, stay for the conversations that turn knowledge into next steps for our community. We hope you’ll add your voice. Looking forward to seeing you at the Sources of Knowledge Forum: October 24–26 in Tobermory. Details and registration at www.sourcesofknowledge.ca/registration.
