What a winter we’ve had, and it looks like Mother Nature hasn’t finished playing with us yet. Still, what a community in which to live. So many have reached out to assist others during our numerous road closures and more recently with the downed trees and hydro outages. The Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary (LHHA) is so fortunate to be a part of this community and, in case you aren’t already aware, we wish to show our appreciation for past successful fundraising events while we are preparing for our 2025 season.

Our fundraisers in December were a great success even though Mother Nature was not cooperating. We had reached out to the community for cookie bakers and WOW, did you ever respond. Bakers volunteered their time to bake and deliver dozens of cookies to us. LHHA members also baked cookies, set up all those delicious cookies and bars, helped our lovely customers fill their boxes and finally cleaned up. Customers braved the weather and shopped ‘til they dropped. Okay, nobody dropped but they did buy lots and lots and lots of cookies and treats. You all helped raise monies that go to continue to support the quality of healthcare in our community to which we are accustomed. Additional thanks go to Nancy and her granddaughters for making the signs and to Dave and Laureen who put out the signs and then retrieved them from the snowbanks. Who would have thought that the weather that day was foreshadowing our entire winter.

The Cookie Walk was one of four fundraising initiatives. There was the Poinsettia sale (we sold out), the Greenery Sale, and the Online Auction. Plenty of people did shop locally and did some last minute Christmas shopping. I know I certainly did.

Did you know that since April 1, 2018 (we operate on a fiscal year of April 1 – March 31), LHHA has raised a total of $423,000.00? Had Covid not reared its ugly head we likely would have raised half a million dollars. The monies received are totally dependent on the charitable and good people of Northern Bruce Peninsula. This is your achievement. Even during tough times you continue to give and support our local hospital.

The events for 2025 are currently being organized. We know that this will be a challenging year. Our economic uncertainty means that money will be tighter and many items more expensive. Certainly, medical equipment is already extremely expensive. With more and more Canadians doing staycations it is sure that there will be many more tourists on the Northern Bruce Peninsula and hence increased demand for our exemplary health care. Please keep the LHHA in mind for shopping local and continuing to support keeping health care local. Thank you so much for continuing to be such an amazing, supportive community.
