Lion’s Head and District Curling News

The 2024-25 Curling season is well underway at the Lion’s Head & District Curling Club. We had a successful Learn to Curl and Registration Night on October 21 and from that we are running eight sheets of ice for league curling.

Our first draw started October 28 with six teams curling early on Monday evenings from 4 to 6pm and then from 7 to 9pm 10 teams get together for another round of curling. As of November 25, the start of the second draw, we are still running two time slots and hope to do the same in January and February if we don’t lose too many “snow birds”.

The first draw in the early game was won by Andy Haayema and his team, Brenda Haayema, Dale Eichenberger and Shawn Chapman. Our President, George Hambleton presented Andy’s team with $20 Home Hardware gift certificates.

Rick Sim’s team came in first in the 7-9pm time for Draw 1 and also received Home Hardware gift certificates. Rick missed the final game due to illness but Vice Pete Hart guided the team to victory with the help of Mia Toose and Brad McMillan.

Our final game of Draw 2 will be December 16 and then we break for Christmas but will be back for Draw 3 on January 6, followed by the RONA sponsored Bonspiel on January 11. RONA has been sponsoring this Bonspiel for over 40 years. It is always a popular event and this year is no exception as it was sold out within days. Our curling club is very grateful for this long-term support of our club and the great bonspiels we’ve had together.

We extend an invitation to anyone who would like to curl to come out to the arena in Lion’s Head on a Monday evening and watch, or perhaps be a spare if there is an opening that night. We always end the evening with snacks and a social time and you would be very welcome to join us.
